After a busy Christmas and relaxing New Year, the ladies of Colchester Military Wives Choir (CMWC) have started 2015 as they mean to go on – by donating money to worthy charitable causes. Although the choir is in itself a charity, and as such we must be proactive in our fundraising to ensure its longevity, we also aim to support local causes here in Colchester when we can.
At the beginning of November 2014, CMWC were invited back for the third year running to sing at Portcullis House for Remembrance Day. Whilst singing in the atrium for anyone who wanted to listen, we were raising money for the Colchester Branch of the Royal British Legion. Due to the generosity of our audience, we were able to present the RBL with a cheque at their most recent meeting.
In November, we were lucky enough to sing at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester. This was our first big theatre event and we are pleased to say the evening was a huge success. Proceeds from the evening were being split between ourselves and the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) and on 20th March 2015, a few of the CMWC ladies visited the EACH offices to deliver a cheque for a staggering £1,001.49.
At the end of February 2015, we organised an Exercisathon – an afternoon of exercise with one of the local female personal trainers. The event was well received and we had a lot of support from the local ladies (and a few men!) which helped to make the day a great event. Following its success, we were able to send a cheque for £170.40 to the Walk the Walk breast cancer charity.
A big thank you to all those who have supported us, not just for these events, but for all our past events.
