Christmas Is Coming

Carol singing in Culver Square
Carol singing in Culver Square

It has been a busy couple of months for the Colchester Military Wives Choir, and we are starting to slow down now before we break for Christmas leave.

November brought with it the arrival of the long awaited ‘one night only’ performance at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester, where tickets sold out in just 3 days!  This was the first time many of the ladies had been on a big stage and for most, the bright lights of fame took a bit of getting used to.  But as with every performance, we put our own twist on the evening and managed to ‘Tell The Story’ sufficiently so our audience were left satisfied.  The evening was a huge success and left us all feeling very proud and grateful to be surrounded by such a supportive community.  A very big thank you to the Mercury Theatre as well, for having us for the evening, and for all their help and support.

Following the huge success at the Mercury, the hard work didn’t stop, and we were straight back to rehearsals the following day to prepare for the start of our Christmas performances.  We were in Culver Square in Colchester town at the end of November to sing for the Christmas light switch on.  Braving the cold, we donned Santa hats and got into the holiday spirit by singing some carols as well as some of our usual songs.

The festivities didn’t stop there, and only last weekend we were singing carols at the Halifax in town, where people were provided with mince pies whilst they watched us sing.  We then moved on to Freda Gunton Lodge where we had a lovely afternoon having a Christmas sing song with the residents – some of whom knew the words better than we did!  Our final performance before Christmas is on Friday at the Co-Op Memorial Service.  This is a very special service that the ladies love to participate in, and we are honoured that we have been asked back again this year.

Our final rehearsal before Christmas is right around the corner and we are looking forward to a bit of a rest before the excitement starts again next year.  On behalf of the Colchester Military Wives Choir, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.  Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in 2015!
